My half day in Stonemaster Amateur Tournament.
Why half? Well... the story begins here. The tournament supposed to start at 9:30am but due to some unforeseen problems, the game start late around 10:15am. I came out of my house at 8:30am with no hurry to the venue because I already register myself and made the payment. I reached Wilayah Kompleks at 9:20am. At that time I was thinking of going to my friend's sister wedding. I planned to step out for my lunch at 12pm so that I'll be able to come back in time for my 4th round. Meaning I have to end the game fast!
My 1st round game was nice. Using Evans Gambit, my opponent couldn't do much. He couldn't castled or develop his pieces (one bishop and one knight stuck hehe..). I take the opportunity to punish him more by capturing a piece. The game ended when I was letting his pawn promoted to Queen (so generous of me) and I was attacking his King. I checkmated him even when he used his promoted Queen to block my effort as I promoted my pawn too as Queen :)
Second game was a derby match. The score between him and me was 2 draw 1 win and perhaps 1 lose. I was using black. The game starts with 1. e4. So, what should I play? I made up my mind and go with Scandinavian. And 3. Nc3 Qd6, Oh no! What's the next move again? I forgot the opening move!!! Since I was so into Nimzo-Indian for the past few days, I didn't do my revision on the opening. To make the story short, I lost the game even though I throw all my efforts to save the game :(
My 3rd and final match. Remember my plan to go to my friend's sister wedding? So. I have to do it right and end the game by noon. The game was King's pawn opening. I was doing so well that I captured his pieces one by one. And what surprise me was he didn't resign! C'mon la don't waste my time la. I told myself to be cool and finish the game without making silly mistake. The supreme end game come with my pieces (lots of them) against a King, pawns and a Rook. I survive the 1st effort of back rank mate but later my patience ran dry as I badly wanted to end the game fast. I lost because my concentration went out and I got beaten by back rank mate. Really sad la game like tis.
After that I went out to my friend's sister wedding. Realising that I couldn't be able in time to play my 4th round game, I went home. Not worth it. Why? I got 1 point out of 3 games, have to pay parking again (another RM3.50), not convenient for me to perform my pray (i have to find new place because the old place is demolished to make way for a new one), too sad to lose my last game like that and lastly blaming the organiser (to put in record - i know not their fault anyway) because the tournament start late.
Well there maybe blessing towards these whole episodes. I might just have to train hard and not to forget openings again!
Thanks for your time.
